with Sabrina Fuentes
How’s it working with Paul Kolderie and being signed by Dirty Hit?
Sabrina Fuentes – Paul is such an OG, has so much knowledge to impart, and is so much fun to work with. He is really encouraging young artists to do their thing and make everyone in the band comfortable when we work together. Working with Dirty Hit is the same, everyone is really sweet and really supportive of what we do. We have a good time with them.
You guys were able to go on tour last year? How was that?
SF – I loved it. I love touring. I love traveling. Our headline tour was in America so we got to see so much of the country I have never seen before because I never really traveled America by car.
Oh, it was all by car?
SF – Yeah, it was in a van.
Nice, where were your favorite places to visit?
SF – I loved the PNW in general and Canada. And the South. Idk, I liked everywhere, there’s nowhere I was bummed on. The first time going PNW and Southwest was really cool.
What are tips for traveling by van?
SF – Bring purple shampoo.
I feel like people pigeonhole music where girls front it to the riot grrl movement but I find it with your fanbase and people I know who love your music come regardless of gender. How do you feel about riot grrrl as applied to most modern music now?
SF – I love riot grrrl as a genre, and as a time period of music. It’s more of a time period in music and art than a genre at all. If you look at the bands of riot grrl a lot of them don’t even share similarities sonically. There are so many different things and experimentation happening. IDK it feels when people call current bands riot grrrl it sounds to me like they don’t really know what they’re talking about, but I mean, whatever. I don’t really care. I would rather not be called something based on my gender, but I don’t really care what people think of me that much. Call it what you want.
You have a lot of really cool music videos, are you expanding on doing more visuals and videos?
SF – We’re figuring out the next step in visuals. We had a lot of fun working with Frank LeBon on the previous album, so we’re probably going to keep working with the homies and keeping the family happens while we do it.
You are born and raised in Manhattan, what’s your favorite venue in NY?
SF – Bowery Ballroom.
What’s your favorite place to get food?
SF – Hmmmm at the moment I’m really obsessed with hot dogs, I eat one every day.
That’s cool.
SF – I love hot dogs.
I’m guessing you kinda lived everywhere in NYC at this point?
SF – No, I lived with my parents my whole life. I lived in the same apartment my whole life. I live between here when I’m visiting family and working, but I live full-time in London.
