Reminiscent of 90s indie rock heavy hitters, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr. and even at times, Oasis. Frontman Jacob Duarte of the rising Texas based band Narrow Head talks with SNUFF about musical inspirations, dream tour lineups and more.

What is your name and role in the band?
My name is Jacob and I play guitar and sing in Narrow Head. 

Where are you guys from?
We are from Houston Texas.

How would you describe your music to someone who's never heard it?
Heavy rock music layered with distortion, or something haha. Just fucking listen to it.

What bands would you say influence Narrow Head?
Well if it’s up to me I would say the obvious picks are Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins and Helmet. But truth is all music inspires us. Anything that makes me tap my foot influences me.

What Would your dream tour lineup be?
Deftones, Quicksand, Narrow Head. Just us three would be perfect and a dream come true.

What show did you enjoy playing the most?
That’s a hard one. Every show is important to me. But our Brooklyn show at st vitus October 2019 was one of my favorites.

What are your 3 favorite releases this year?
Laffing Gas - It’s a beautiful day in the gulch is the only one that matters to me.

What 3 texas bands would you recommend to someone who isn't from there?
Iron Age, Big Boys and Butthole Surfers? I don’t know, I’m just gonna say Narrow Head, Narrow Head, Narrow Head.

Favorite Deftones album and track from it?
It changes a lot but right now it’s Good Morning beautiful off of the self titled record.

Hottest in the band?
That’s an easy one, Carson obviously.

What’s your inspiration for lyrics?
All the fucked up decisions and experiences I go through.  

Can we expect new music this year? if so when?
Most definitely. Sooner than you think.

What would you say is the biggest problem facing the world today?
Uhhh so many things. Too many to name. But to keep it not too deep I’ll just say there’s not enough people writing RIFFS nowadays.
